What I Like About Coffee
December 14, 2009
After living in Seattle for nearly two years now, I find that I fit in pretty well. However, it’s not because I love the rain, hike the mountains or hug the trees. I fit in because I like coffee… a LOT! When I think about it though, I have to ask, “What’s so good about the coffee?” Is it the rich flavor or smell of the dark roasted beans? I enjoy both of those qualities, but that’s not what interests me the most. What I really like about coffee is who you’re drinking it with. Aside from my morning cup, I’m usually enjoying my coffee with people, whether I’m waiting for class to begin, talking to co-workers, or meeting an old friend, I enjoy the conversations that occur over a cup of coffee. The drink may be cheap, but the conversations are priceless. I might order the same dark drip coffee, but I know the stories will be different every time.
Needless to say, some cups of coffee are a hit, and others are a miss, and such are stories in life. I’m sure some of my posts will be distant and others irrelevant, but I’m hoping that a few of my stories might be refreshing to some and encouraging to others. These are the stories of a student, shepherd, and husband.
Your story has brought warmth to my heart almost as much as our coffee warmed my stomach earlier today!
Great. Now I’m going to feel antisocial when I drink coffee alone :-p
One question… what do Habatchi Bears drink? With all that chocolate, a little cup of Joe would go a long way. What I like about coffee is very similar, it’s the conversations over it that make it.
Vince, you sound so doubtful. I’ll have to send you an apologetics book called, “The Case for Hibachi Bears”… even though I’m a presuppositionalist and think the book will do very little for your faith. It’s really a work of the Christmas spirit that has to work in your heart first.
Just ordered the book at Amazon.
Ahh, Coffee….and now we have two new coffee shops in little Batavia – Coffee Culture & The Daily Grind. Woah, so much socialization in such a small town. We’ll see what happens. Nice for the holidays
Oh, and Habachi bears get their coffee at the Adirondack Country Store near WOLBI. It’s only a two hour tramp from their cave…but they only go there after all M&Ms are made…after the holidays.
Yes, I’m definitely looking forward to sitting down and talking in those two coffee shops within the next three days!
So they do drink coffee! Chip and Lois, what a wonderful tradition you started with Habachi bears. Merry Christmas to you all in NY!
I like the layout of your site. The “snow” caught me off guard, it’s nice, but will it melt in the spring?
Oh, and, I agree with you about the coffee. We just got a new little restaurant down here, and I’m excited to start to go there.
I don’t know what will happen in the spring, but I’m heading to NY in a couple of days, so there might be some blizzards on my page during that time! Yup, you gotta love the coffee shops. There’s a Brazilian coffee shop near my house, and even though it’s not Argentinian, I still think of you when I go or drive by.
By the way, I am sipping a hot cup of Starbucks instant while reading/writing this.
I’m so glad you have a blog!! Coffee is best enjoyed with friends!
